Normally whenever you create a shortcut to a file or folder, then you will notice that icon of the shortcut has a small arrow, which signifies that it is a shortcut. In the below screen shot you can easily see the difference between the icon of a regular file and the icon of a shortcut. The arrow is quite conspicuous.
It is Possible to get rid of the arrow from a shortcut with the help of a very cool tool called vista shortcut Overlay Manger. It is a available as free download from www.download.com and it work on both window and vista. Once you download it you can choose what kind of an icon you would like window to display for shortcut and then simply apply the changes. As simple as that!
